Lesson Planning Formative Assessments:
There is a trend in lesson planning throughout FHE:
*Discussion of targets and "I can" statements.
*Activities and assessments need to be congruent with learning target.
Differentiation:
Discussion of differentiation strategies for low and high achieving students.
Given Handout.
Tools for Formative Assessments:
60 strategies that require minimal teacher prep time.
Sharing formative assessments:
Peden-Brought exit slip about similie and metaphor. Could quickly see if they got it or not. Reviewed it immediately.
Coslow-Brough exit slip about inferencing. The majority of students missed a question on inferencing because they were focused on the explicit details. Students have difficulty understanding when they made an inference.
Masterson-Grammar Minutes-Take data on that and teach a mini lesson. Working on prepositions, they caught on except for when they were at the beginning of sentences. Reteaching.
Peden-Paired students. One student was a mannequin and the other student had to pose them based on a feeling. Helped with understanding the difference between explicit and inferencing.
Harris-Using a checklist and whiteboard to take data on whole group. Read a slip of paper, students wrote answer down on board, teacher said show down, she could quickly look at boards and take data for reteaching purposes.
Book Study: Read pages 1-11. Next PLC we will discuss.
Number Talks-Team leaders will have the book in the room and we will start with a game plan in the near future.
